Different Cheeses

Posted by Ian Kleine

The world of cheese has well over six hundred different known types today, all of them mostly produced by Wisconsin cheese artisans, makers and researchers. Cheeses can be classified according to shape, body, technique used, and sometimes, appearance. Taste is what also separates one cheese from the other.

Firstly, there is blue cheese. Blue cheese is achieved by veining in specially bred green or blue molds inside the cheese to permeate the insides with a stately flavor, most often described as ‘piquant’. Hard cheese is what can be named for classes such as Parmesan cheese, Romano, and the scalletic Asiago. Well-aged and thick like a brick, its resilient flavor is best used to impart cheesiness on most dishes; from sauces, to snacks and salad. A popular cheese most kids would be familiar to is Pasta Filata, that easily melts when heated thoroughly. This effect is achieved because the whey is stretched thoroughly before it is cast in mold and shaped. Common cheeses in this category are String cheese, Mozzarella and Provolone.

Processed cheese is the next category, a mixture of both freshly made cheese and naturally-aged ripe cheese. It is cooked, processed and mixed evenly with a special salt, after which no more ripening and aging is required (that part was taken care of by the aged cheese in the mixture). Semi-hard cheese is akin to hard cheeses, but their undeniable softness and body makes them not only limited to as food ingredients (like that of hard cheese) but also as a condiment, a food complement, and a snack in itself. The cheese still retains a good kick though, most popular are Cheddar cheese and Edam. Semi-soft cheese is like soft cheese, but they still have shape and body, partly because they are made of whole milk. Montery Jack and Brick cheese fill this category.

Soft cheese and fresh cheese are those that need a container, as they lack body but certainly not in volume. High moisture content, these cheeses are usually eaten right after they are purchased. Cottage, cream and feta take this category. The last one is the soft-ripened cheese, rated for body and flavor. Delicate and tender, Brie and Camembert fit this category.

Lots of cheeses still appear categories within these main categories. But they certainly offer a kaleidoscope view on the wonderful world of cheese.

4 Steps to a Perfect Basketball Shot

Posted by Brad Miles

One of the first skills taught to budding basketball players is how to shoot the basketball. Every kid goes into their first practice wanting to learn how to sink a shot and good coaches realize this. In order to keep players from learning the wrong way and thus picking up habits that may be hard to break, coaches should begin teaching the proper way to shoot a basketball.

Form is important to having a shot that is accurate. Without good form control of the ball is next to impossible. A good shooting technique embodies the following four steps.

Step One: Balance

Players should practice jumping up and down and landing each and every time in the same spot. It is important that a player can jump straight up and land from the spot he has jumped from. Having good balance is essential to the set up for the shot. If a player jumps up and to the side instead of straight, the path of the ball will be off.

Step Two: Elbow Position

The elbow needs to always be in towards the body. Players should be taught that the elbow is held in to the body and after the shot should be pointed at the basket. This is part of the whole shot set up. If the elbow is off then the shot will be off.

Step Three: Eyes on Target

Being focused is important to the game of basketball. A player has to learn to always keep their eyes focused on the ball and where the ball is going. When shooting that focus has to be on the basket.

A player needs to keep their eyes on the basket. When practicing balance it is a good idea to also practice keeping an eye on the target. This is important and players should constantly be reminded.

When a player is focused on the target they tend to focus their whole body and movement to the target which in the end helps to land the basket.

Step Four: Follow Through

The final step of shooting a basketball is after the ball leaves the players hand. The follow though allows the final contact with the ball to be focused as the rest of the shot.

Following through involves dropping the wrist with the finger straight down to the floor. This prevents the player from doing any weird movement with their fingers that can send the ball off balance.

These four steps are all essential to the process of shooting a basketball accurately. Players will begin by focusing more on just throwing the ball than anything else, so it is important to take the focus off the power and put it on the technique.

After all, a ball flying through the air will not reach the basket just through shear force - there has to be technique to guide it there. Without technique the player is just hurling the ball through the air with no rhyme or reason and the chances of making a basketball are all left to chance.

An Overview about Spider Vein Treatment and Development of Other Veins

Posted by Bobbie McKee

The sight of those unwanted veins on your face and on your legs can make you want to rush to your trusted doctors for varicose and spider vein treatment. Although the technology with regards to the cure for such occurrence is continuously developing, people also remain in constant search for some permanent solutions to what they deem as a problem.

Finding a solution to the perceived problem cannot be categorized as mere vanity. Maybe you just want to feel good and you are also concerned about the health risks that these cases may bring forth. It is when you can no longer perform your daily tasks and your life and job is affected by your ultimate goal of concealing the veins that this becomes a personal issue.

Women are more prone to spider veins. The reason for this is the hormonal change that they go through especially during the menopausal period. But men also suffer from the situation.

The Development of the Veins Who ever likes the emergence of the unwanted veins in their faces and legs? But you cannot do anything about it. You may slow down the process, but as you age, you will have to face the truth that the veins are there to stay. It is of course not unless you are willing to pay the price for these veins to be removed through medical procedures.

If you are wondering how these veins develop, here’s a brief overview to give you an idea.

Do you know how the veins work in the circulation of the blood throughout your body? First off, the heart pumps the blood to be able to supply the needed nutrients and oxygen on the different parts of the body. The arteries are responsible to carry the blood from the heart to your body parts. The veins, on the other hand, carry the blood from various parts of the body and bring it back to the heart.

It is amazing how the body works. But just like machines, the body gets old and rusty as it ages, thus the emergence of sickness, weakness and other signs of aging.

The veins act as the one-way valves. They aim to prevent the blood from flowing back to where they’ve been before it can reach the heart. Through time, these valves weaken. As a result, the blood can leak back to the vein. If the vein has collected enormous amount of blood, this can cause decongestion and the vein will be clogged. This is why the vein expands and becomes enlarged and swollen. The result will be either varicose or spider veins.

What’s the difference?

Spider veins are nearer on the surface of the skin. These are smaller and they appear in red or bluish colors. Varicose, on the other hand, looks more swollen. It appears like the veins will pop out of the skin any time, although it can be found deeper than the spider veins. This appears in the colors blue and deep purple. When a woman is pregnant, she’s prone to develop varicose veins around the vaginal area. These are more known as hemorrhoids.

You can consult your trusted dermatologists for any vein problems. Spider vein treatment is easier than curing varicose and hemorrhoids. It doesn’t pose much health risks than the two.
